A maiden resource estimate for IMC Exploration Group PLC's polymetallic Avoca project in Ireland outlined 1.9 million tonnes grading 0.14% copper, 0.42% lead, 0.14% zinc, 0.3 g/t gold and 9 parts per million silver in the inferred category.
The company plans to undertake an environmental cleanup program to remove metals from existing mine waste at the site, where operations ceased in 1982.
The estimate, which was completed by CSA Global Pty. Ltd., includes the Tigroney East, Mount Platt and Cronebane spoil heaps and was based on data from 14 sample pits.
IMC Exploration said Sept. 11 that mineralogical testing is ongoing. It noted potential to increase the tonnage and grade of the resource through further investigations including basal topography surveys and assessment of other spoil heaps in the area, highlighting West Avoca.
