Harvey Weinstein, the co-chairman of The Weinstein Co. accused of sexually harassing female employees for nearly three decades, has been fired by the board of his company, Variety reported Oct. 8.
The Weinstein Co. directors Robert Weinstein, Lance Maerov, Richard Koenigsberg and Tarak Ben Ammar said that "in light of new information about misconduct," they had terminated Weinstein's employment "effective immediately."
Leadership of The Weinstein Co. will be assumed by Weinstein's brother, Bob Weinstein, and COO David Glasser.
The dismissal comes shortly after Weinstein said he plans to take a leave of absence after The New York Times published a story detailing multiple sexual harassment accusations against him.
