Jordan, Qatar central banks hike rates

Jordan and Qatar on Dec. 14 hiked interest rates after a similar move by their Middle East neighbors, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

In a release, the Central Bank of Jordan said its open market operations committee decided to raise the interest rates on its various monetary policy instruments by 25 basis points, effective Dec. 17. The hike will not affect the central bank's refinancing program.

Separately, the Qatar Central Bank increased its repo rate to 2.50% from 2.25%.
