Tire manufacturer Michelin announced Dec. 3 its acquisition of New-York based hotel booking site Tablet Inc.
Michelin said Tablet's booking service compliments its hotel recommendation offering Michelin guides, a series of guide books published by the French tire company. It rates over 30,000 hotels and restaurants in over 30 territories across three continents.
Details of the deal were not disclosed but Michelin said its goal is to reach a geographically diverse audience by extending Tablet's existing offers and creating new ones.
At the time of the announcement, 52% of Tablet's customers were North American. Tablet currently has a selection of 3,500 hotels for customers to choose from. The booking site also offers an exclusive service for its members, Tablet Plus, which provides privileges including assistance from travel specialists, room upgrades and airport transfers in some cases.
The French company said Tablet's teams will remain in New York.
