Uber to open Texas corporate hub, adding 3,000 jobs

Uber Technologies Inc. will open a new administrative office in the Texas city of Dallas that is expected to create around 3,000 jobs over four years, FOX4 News reported Aug. 20.

The ride-hailing company, which also provides food delivery and scooter rental, will receive a combined total of $36 million in incentives from the state of Texas, Dallas County and the city of Dallas, the report said.

These incentives are dependent on Uber hiring Dallas residents. The company has pledged to pay an average salary of $100,000 for corporate positions, while drivers will be hired separately as contractors, according to the report.

Uber will stay in a 23-story building called The Epic, which is now being built in the city's Deep Ellum area, FOX4 said. The new hub will reportedly become Uber's largest corporate center outside of its San Francisco headquarters.

News of Uber's expansion into Texas came more than a week after it was reported that the company froze hiring for tech jobs in the U.S. and Canada, following a $5.24 billion loss in the quarter ended June 30. In July, Uber slashed 400 marketing jobs to reduce costs and streamline operations.

Uber did not immediately respond to S&P Global Market Intelligence's request for comment.
