Qatar's central bank asked banks and financial institutions not to deal in any cryptocurrency including bitcoin, Reuters reported Feb. 8, citing "financial sources" and a circular it had seen.
The bank said it has asked the country's financial institutions to not "exchange it with another currency, or open accounts to deal with it, or send or receive any money transfers for the purpose of buying or selling this currency."
The regulator could impose fines in case of breach, according to the report.
