EU approves €64M aid for waste-to-energy cogen plant in Poland

The European Commission has approved €64 million of Polish state aid support for a waste-to-energy cogeneration plant due to be built by Port Czystej Energii Sp. z o.o., or PCE, after finding it will not unduly distort competition in the single market.

The project will be organized in the form of a public-private partnership involving PCE and the private partners it selected through a competitive procedure, according to an Oct. 21 news release.

The project is expected to help reduce municipal waste disposal in landfills and reduce use of fossil fuels, supporting the European Union's energy and environmental objectives.
