New orders for durable goods in the U.S. fell 1.2% to $236.0 billion in October after a 2.2% increase in September, the U.S. Census Bureau reported.
The decline was driven by transportation equipment, which decreased 4.3% to $77.1 billion. Excluding transportation, new orders went up 0.4%.
Shipments of durable goods ticked up 0.1% to $241.0 billion in October while unfilled orders were virtually unchanged at $1.135 trillion.
Inventories of manufactured durable goods inched up 0.1% to $404.1 billion in October after increasing 0.6% in the previous month.
Nondefense new orders for capital goods decreased 4.5% to $72.3 billion last month.
