Total U.S. nuclear plant availability edged slightly lower early Jan. 18 to 95.62%, down from 96.24% on Jan. 17, but was still above the 95.32% reported on the same day in 2016.
Working to trim total production across the country was a reduction at the Peach Bottom 2 plant in Pennsylvania, which was cut from full power on Jan. 17 to 40% on Jan. 18. The plant is owned jointly by Public Service Enterprise Group Inc. and Exelon Corp.
Helping to offset the reduction was rising output at Xcel Energy Inc.'s Prairie Island 2 in Minnesota, which was at 42% early Jan. 18, up from 15% on Jan. 17.
