Indian annual general consumer price index inflation increased by 3.21% in August, following a 3.15% rise in July, provisional data from the country's National Statistical Office showed.
The consensus estimate of economists polled by Econoday was for a 3.3% annual growth rate.
Prices of fuel and light declined 1.70% on a yearly basis, while that of clothing and footwear increased 1.23%.
The consumer food price index rose 2.99% annually in August, compared with a growth rate of 2.36% in July and 0.29% in the year-ago period.
