The Medicines Co. has appointed Mark Timney as CEO and board member, effective immediately.

Timney replaces Clive Meanwell, who has been named the company's chief innovation officer. Timney has been CEO and president of Purdue Pharma Inc. since Jan. 27, 2014, and was previously president of Merck & Co. Inc.
