Norsk Vind Energi AS submitted plans with the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate to build a 1.5-GW wind farm in Norway without subsidies, Recharge News reported March 18.
The Hordavind project is expected to dethrone the 600-MW Fantanele-Cogealac facility in Romania as Europe's largest onshore wind farm. Construction is set to begin in 2023.
Per Ove Skorpen, the general manager of Norsk Vind Energi, said the Hordavind project will be "profitable" with a power price of less than 30 øre per kWh.
As of March 15, US$1 was equivalent to 8.54 Norwegian kroner.
