Nuclear update: Pilgrim 1 shuts; River Bend 1 restarts

Total U.S. nuclear plant availability was near unchanged from March 6 at 90.62% early March 7 but was still holding above the 88.90% reported on the same day a year ago.

Putting some downward pressure on total output was the loss of Entergy Corp.'s Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Massachusetts. The unit was offline early March 7 for undisclosed reasons after being pegged at 62% power March 6.

On the other hand, Entergy's River Bend 1 in Louisiana returned. The plant was warming up at 14% early March 7 after being taken offline March 2 for unknown reasons.

In addition, Entergy's Grand Gulf 1 in Mississippi was operating at 98% early March 7, rising from 78% on March 6.

As of early March 7, eight units remain offline.
