Lawson partners with UberEats for delivery in Tokyo

Japanese convenience store chain Lawson Inc. has partnered with UberEats, the delivery arm of Uber Technologies Inc., to start a home delivery service from its stores in the Shinjuku and Shinagawa areas in central Tokyo, Reuters reported Aug. 27, citing a company statement.

Lawson reportedly said that beginning Aug. 29, it will start delivering a selection of about 100 products, including bento boxes and fried chicken, for the next three months, before considering a broader launch of the new service.

Meanwhile, Uber reportedly said in a statement that it has delivery partnerships with 10,000 Japanese restaurants, up from 150 when it launched in Tokyo in September 2016. The online delivery platform operator did not disclose the exact numbers but said it counts several stores of fast-food chains such as McDonald's Corp. as its partners, according to Reuters.
