Danone's British unit signed a three-year agreement with Ecosurety that will see the U.K.-based recycling compliance company manage the French food producer's packaging waste recycling obligations in the U.K.
According to a Dec. 13 release, Ecosurety said the deal could help Danone mitigate its environmental impact through investment in the U.K. recycling infrastructure. The partnership also mandates Ecosurety to prioritize purchase of Danone's packaging recovery notes, or PRNs, from British reprocessors to guarantee reinvestment into the country's recycling system.
Danone's public affairs director, Caroline Winters, said in the release that recycling is an area that the company is specifically focused on improving. "Ecosurety's approach to traceability and tangible reinvestment in the recycling sector resonated with our own environmental business objectives," Winters said.
Ecosurety also said that the agreement will help boost the U.K.'s plastic waste recycling capabilities.
