Florida GOP gubernatorial nominee quits Congress to focus on state race

Florida Republican Rep. Ron DeSantis announced his immediate resignation from Congress in a letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan, according to the Associated Press.

DeSantis is the Republican gubernatorial nominee in Florida, and said in his letter that it would be "inappropriate" to accept a congressional salary while campaigning for the state office, the AP reports.

DeSantis is running to replace Rick Scott, who is term-limited and now running for U.S. Senate. The Democratic gubernatorial nominee is Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum.
