Dominion Energy Virginia to fully acquire transmission facilities

Dominion Energy Virginia is planning to acquire Allegheny Generating Co.'s ownership interests in certain transmission facilities.

The deal involves the 500-kV line from the Valley substation in Rockingham County, Va. to the 3,003-MW Bath County pumped storage substation; the 500-kV line from the Lexington substation in Rockbridge County, Va. to the Bath County facility substation; and the transmission facilities within the Bath County facility substation.

The transaction will result in Dominion Energy Virginia, legally known as Virginia Electric and Power Co., owning 100% of the transmission facilities.

The Bath County pumped storage facility is currently 60% owned by the Dominion Energy Virginia, approximately 24% owned by Bath County Energy LLC, and about 16% owned by Allegheny Generating, according to the Aug. 30 application.

Dominion Energy Virginia is a subsidiary of Dominion Energy Inc. Allegheny Generating is a subsidiary of Monongahela Power Co., which is ultimately owned by FirstEnergy Corp.

The companies asked the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to approve the deal by Oct. 31. (FERC docket EC19-132)
