Weight Watchers International Inc. said March 8 that it will launch a collection of products and services called WW Healthy Kitchen featuring prepared meal kits, special recipes, and kitchen tools and products.
The New York-based company is working with FreshRealm LLC to introduce the WW branded fresh "quick-prep" meal kits, which will be available in grocery stores in the second half of 2018.
With this entry into the meal-kits business, Weight Watchers will be a potential competitor to Walmart Inc., Kroger Co. and meal-kit maker Blue Apron Inc. Retail giant Walmart, which launched its meal-kit business toward the end of 2017, recently said it will start offering meal kits at more than 2,000 stores. Both Amazon and Kroger also introduced meal kits in 2017 similar to those of Blue Apron.
In addition, Weight Watchers said it teamed up with Gibson Overseas Inc. to launch a new line of branded kitchen tools and products, which will be available at retail stores by the end of 2018.
