Enterprise to expand ATEX pipeline after open season

Enterprise Products Partners LP said it would proceed with an expansion of its Appalachia-to-Texas ethane pipeline, or ATEX, after receiving customer commitments during a 30-day binding open season.

Enterprise plans to increase the 1,200-mile pipeline's capacity by 45,000 barrels per day, an expansion the company expected to be available by 2022, according to an Oct. 14 news release. Currently, the ATEX pipeline has a capacity of approximately 145,000 bbl/d. The pipeline runs from production areas in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio to the company's NGL storage facility located in Mont Belvieu, Texas.

"The expansion of ATEX will facilitate growing production from the Marcellus/Utica Basin and will provide access to attractive markets on the Gulf Coast through Enterprise's integrated midstream network," Michael Hanley, senior vice president of Enterprise's general partner, said in the statement.

On Oct. 4, Enterprise announced it had secured deals to build a 450,000-bbl/d pipeline that would connect the company's 6 million-barrel Texas storage facility to the ECHO terminal.
