Peabody Energy Corp. will begin its ventilation of the first segment of North Goonyella coal mine in Queensland, Australia, in consultation with the Queensland Mine Inspectorate, as part of the mine's expected longwall production in 2020.
Peabody CEO and President Glenn Kellow expects the next activities following the ventilation to help resume the mine's normal operations, according to a May 24 release.
Elevated gas levels and a suspected fire forced the company to idle operations at its North Goonyella mine last year. The events at North Goonyella led to Peabody declaring force majeure on coal from the mine in October and weighed on the company's earnings for the fourth quarter of 2018
