Republic Services Inc. said its normalized net income for the fourth quarter amounted to 55 cents per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of 55 cents per share.
EPS increased 17.6% year over year from 47 cents.
Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was $188.5 million, an increase of 15.3% from $163.5 million in the year-earlier period.
The normalized profit margin increased to 7.9% from 7.1% in the year-earlier period.
Total revenue increased year over year to $2.38 billion from $2.29 billion, and total operating expenses climbed on an annual basis to $1.98 billion from $1.93 billion.
Reported net income increased 10.4% year over year to $188.3 million, or 55 cents per share, from $170.6 million, or 49 cents per share.
For the year, the company's normalized net income totaled $2.18 per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus normalized EPS estimate of $2.20.
EPS rose from $2.04 in the prior year.
Normalized net income was $751.1 million, a rise from $715.7 million in the prior year.
Full-year total revenue rose on an annual basis to $9.39 billion from $9.12 billion, and total operating expenses rose year over year to $7.80 billion from $7.60 billion.
The company said reported net income declined on an annual basis to $613.0 million, or $1.78 per share, in the full year, from $748.5 million, or $2.13 per share.
