The U.S. Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement has announced the receipt of a proposed amendment to the Virginia regulatory program under the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act of 1977.
According to a March 31 posting in the Federal Register, the proposed change would require the state to enter permit information into the Applicant Violator System database when receiving a complete permit application and do a final compliance review between the application approval and permit issuance.
OSMRE is seeking public comment on the amendment until May 1.
