Citigroup files $31.48B shelf registration

Citigroup Inc. filed a shelf registration offering approximately $31.48 billion of its securities, according to a Form S-3 filed April 6.

The securities include: debt securities, common stock warrants, index warrants, preferred stock, depositary shares, stock purchase contracts, stock purchase units, and common stock. The company may sell the offered securities through underwriters, dealers or agents, through itself, or through a combination of any of these methods.

Citigroup intends to use the net proceeds for general corporate purposes, including funding its operating units and subsidiaries, possible acquisitions and refinancing or extending the maturity of existing debt obligations.
