Equinor, formally Statoil ASA, awarded SUEZ SA, a contract to supply equipment and production of the seawater sulphate removal unit system at the Johan Castberg project in Norway.
In consortium with Norwegian-based Halvorsen TEC, SUEZ will supply nanofiltration membranes to reduce sulphates in the seawater and an ultrafiltration pretreatment system to protect the production wells for Equinor's Johan Castberg project.
Installed on an offshore platform, the system will treat the seawater injected into the wells eliminating sulphates to protect the production wells and prevent deposits, which can clog and damage the oil field, SUEZ said in a May 15 release.
SUEZ will also provide Equinor with the "OnBoard" service and "InSight" solution package, a support platform that combines advanced data and analytics.
Delivery of the equipment is expected at the beginning of 2020, while the first oil is expected to be produced from the Johan Castberg field in the first half of 2022.
