Centrica inks commercial services contract with Alcoa for Norway wind project

Centrica PLC will provide commercial services supporting Alcoa Corp.'s power purchase agreement for a 197-MW wind farm in Norway.

Under a two-year contract, Centrica will deliver dynamic shaping and balancing services for the electricity flows from the wind facility and for power consumption at Alcoa's Norwegian plants.

"In this agreement we bring together two important measures for Alcoa, the support for renewable energy and predictability of long-term electricity costs," Kai-Rune Heggland, vice president of Alcoa Norway, said in a March 12 news release.

In July 2018, Alcoa signed a 15-year corporate power contract with project owner and asset manager BlackRock Inc. for the entire output of the 197-MW Guleslettene wind farm.

The project will consist of 47 Vestas turbines and is expected to enter operations in late 2020.
