J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions Inc. entered into a five-year content deal with AT&T Inc.'s WarnerMedia to create original projects for TV, games and digital platforms.
As part of the collaboration, Abrams and Bad Robot will develop original theatrical films for Warner Bros. Pictures Inc. and New Line Cinema LLC. Bad Robot will continue to develop and produce new television projects, including dramas and comedies, for all platforms. These include WarnerMedia-affiliated networks and streaming platforms such as HBO and HBO Max.
Financial terms of the deal, which runs through 2024, were not officially disclosed. However, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the deal is worth about $250 million, citing "multiple sources."
The pact builds on a 13-year relationship between Abrams and Warner Bros. that began when Bad Robot entered into an exclusive overall TV deal with Warner Bros. Television Group.
Bad Robot will honor its existing obligations to Viacom Inc.'s Paramount Pictures.
Abrams has directed hit movies from the Star Wars franchise, including the newest film "The Rise of Skywalker," and created hit TV series, such as "Alias" and "Lost."
