Aviva to merge UK insurance businesses; CEO for Europe to depart

Aviva Plc will merge its U.K. insurance businesses as part of an organizational shake-up that will include the departure of its CEO for Europe.

Andy Briggs, who had been CEO of Aviva Life U.K., will head the combined life, general and health insurance businesses as CEO of U.K. insurance. Briggs joined Aviva after the company's acquisition of Friends Life, where he had been CEO.

Maurice Tulloch, executive chairman of Aviva's global general insurance business, will become CEO for international insurance, responsible for operations in France, Canada, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Poland, Turkey and India. The appointments are subject to regulatory approval.

David McMillan, CEO of Aviva Europe and chairman of Aviva Global Health Insurance, will leave the company following the changes. He joined Aviva in 2002 and was appointed CEO of Aviva Europe in 2013.

Aviva Investors, Aviva Asia and Aviva's digital businesses will remain separate entities, the company noted.
