Salt River Project on March 24 announced the commissioning of a 1.2-MW solar project in Tempe, Ariz.
Located at a water treatment plant, the project uses 2,000 solar panels to produce 1.8 million kWh of electricity each year that will supply 30% of treatment plant's needs, the company said.
SRP completed the project in partnership with the city of Tempe. With the project set in motion, Tempe reached 10% of its goal to have 20% of its energy from renewable sources by 2025.
Tempe expects to save more than $530,000 in utility costs over the next 20 years, according to the news release, and the water treatment plant's carbon emissions are projected to be reduced by 1,280 tonnes annually.
