Globe Metals' Kanyika niobium prospecting licence in Malawi renewed

Globe Metals & Mining Ltd. said May 17 that its exclusive Kanyika niobium prospecting license in Malawi was renewed for a further two years starting May 22.

The license, EPL0421/15, covers about 308 square kilometers and is adjacent to the company's mining lease application lodged with the Malawi Ministry of Natural Resources, Energy and Mining in December 2014.

That mining lease application has already been approved but remains subject to completion of a development agreement, which is still pending.

In March, members of the Kanyika community decided to take legal action against the company's Malawian subsidiary, Globe Metals & Mining (Africa) Ltd., and the government to seek compensation for exploration on its land.
