Nuclear update: Total US output eases with loss of Hatch 1

Total U.S. nuclear plant availability was down slightly early Feb. 5 to 96.68%, from 97.12% on Feb. 2, but was above the 93.62% logged the same day a year ago.

Southern Co.'s Hatch 1 was offline as of early Feb. 5, down from a reduced rate of 85% on Feb. 2. The reason for the shutdown remains unclear.

Entergy Corp.'s Grand Gulf 1 in Mississippi was pegged at 26% early Feb. 5. The unit had been offline.
