Great Plains, Westar extend merger closing by 6 months

Great Plains Energy Inc. and Westar Energy Inc. have both agreed to extend the completion date of their merger by six months, to Nov. 30 from May 31. On May 23, the companies were denied extra time to renegotiate the proposed deal when the Kansas Corporation Commission refused to keep the docket open and reaffirmed its decision to reject the deal.

Brookfield's proposed TerraForm Power deal heads to FERC

Brookfield Asset Management Inc., through its Orion US Holdings 1 LP subsidiary, is seeking approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to acquire 51% of the class A common stock of TerraForm Power Inc. Brookfield and TerraForm requested that FERC establish a shortened, 21-day comment period and issue an order by July 10.

DTE Biomass acquires 2 landfill gas facilities in Texas

DTE Biomass Energy Inc. announced May 25 the acquisition of two landfill gas-to-energy projects in Texas, increasing the total number of such facilities it owns in the state to three. The two facilities are the Fort Bend Power Producers LLC facility near Rosenberg and the Seabreeze landfill gas development project in Angleton.

RES to sell 160-MW wind project to Goldwind Americas

Renewable Energy Systems Americas Inc. struck a deal to sell the 160-MW Heart of Texas wind project in McCulloch County, Texas, to a Chinese wind turbine manufacturer, according to a May 24 company release. Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology Co. Ltd. will acquire the project through its Goldwind Americas subsidiary.

FERC OKs JPM Capital purchase of passive stake in 2 Nev. solar projects

FERC has authorized JPM Capital Corp. to acquire a 100% class A membership stake in the 79-MW Playa Solar 1 and 100-MW Playa Solar 2 facilities from First Solar Inc. Prior to the consummation of the transaction, First Solar will form an indirect subsidiary, dubbed FSAM Playa Holdings LLC, which will own the two solar farms.

Innergex completes acquisition of 3 wind projects in France

Innergex Renewable Energy Inc. completed its acquisition of three wind projects in France totaling 119.5 MW of generation capacity from Velocita Energy Developments (France) Ltd. Innergex now owns a 69.55% interest in the wind farms for approximately C$46.4 million.

Enel Kansas seeks FERC approval to add to stake in Okla. wind farm

Enel Kansas LLC filed an application with FERC on May 22 to purchase an additional 15% membership stake in the 108.8-MW Drift Sand wind farm from EFS Renewables Holdings LLC. If the transaction is approved, Enel Kansas will have a 50% ownership stake in the facility.
