The eurozone's seasonally adjusted goods trade surplus with the rest of the world increased to €21.2 billion in March from €20.9 billion in February.
Exports rose by 0.8% to €186.9 billion in March from €185.4 billion in the prior month and imports increased by 0.7% to €165.7 billion from €164.4 billion, according to provisional figures from Eurostat.
Non-seasonally adjusted data showed the eurozone's goods trade surplus narrowed to €26.9 billion in March from €28.5 billion a year ago as the single currency area's exports decreased 2.9% and imports were down 2.5% from a year ago.
In the first quarter of 2018, the euro area's goods trade surplus totaled €49.4 billion on an unadjusted basis, up from €42.9 billion in the same quarter of last year. Exports rose 2.5% and imports were up 1.4% from the year-ago quarter.
On an unadjusted basis, intra-euro area trade increased 4.1% to €485.6 billion in the quarter from €466.3 billion in the prior-year quarter.
