J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. said its normalized net income for the first quarter amounted to 79 cents per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of 72 cents per share.
EPS rose 35.2% year over year from 58 cents.
Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was $92.8 million, an increase of 33.9% from $69.3 million in the year-earlier period.
The normalized profit margin climbed to 6.4% from 4.9% in the year-earlier period.
Total revenue increased year over year to $1.44 billion from $1.41 billion, and total operating expenses totaled $1.28 billion, compared with $1.29 billion in the prior-year period.
Reported net income grew 33.2% from the prior-year period to $91.9 million, or 78 cents per share, from $69.0 million, or 58 cents per share.
