Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing profit misses consensus by 31.2% in Q2

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd said its normalized net income for the second quarter amounted to NT$1.89 per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of NT$2.75 per share.

EPS rose 8.4% year over year from NT$1.75.

Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was NT$49.12 billion, an increase of 8.4% from NT$45.31 billion in the prior-year period.

The normalized profit margin declined to 23.9% from 24.8% in the year-earlier period.

Total revenue rose 12.2% year over year to NT$205.44 billion from NT$183.02 billion, and total operating expenses climbed 14.3% year over year to NT$128.37 billion from NT$112.31 billion.

Reported net income grew 33.0% from the prior-year period to NT$79.35 billion, or NT$3.06 per share, from NT$59.64 billion, or NT$2.30 per share.

As of Aug. 12, US$1 was equivalent to NT$32.10.
