Scatec Solar places another 65 MW of solar capacity in operation in Egypt

Scatec Solar ASA and its project partners started commercial operations of another 65-MW segment of the 390-MW Benban solar power plant in Egypt.

The company said Benban will be its largest project in operation. It is also Scatec's first solar plant with bi-facial solar panels, according to an Aug. 19 release. Scatec has 260 MW in operation in Egypt and plans to complete the remaining two power plants out of six by the end of the year.

The company, along with partners KLP Norfund and Africa 50 Infrastructure fund, signed a 25-year power purchase agreement to supply electricity from all six projects to the government of Egypt.

Scatec Solar is the biggest contributor to the 1.5-GW Benban solar complex, which is said to be the largest solar park in the world.
