Zimbabwe adds generals to new Cabinet, leaves opposition out

The new Zimbabwean president, Emmerson Mnangagwa, announced his new Cabinet members following a military coup that forced an end to the decadeslong rule of Robert Mugabe, Bloomberg News reported, citing Cabinet Chief Secretary Misheck Sibanda's emailed statement.

Mnangagwa, who vowed to rescue the suffering economy of the nation in his inaugural speech, renamed Patrick Chinamasa as finance minister. The fresh Cabinet includes generals and excludes members from the opposition.

Major General Sibusiso Moyo, who announced the coup on national television, will lead foreign affairs, according to the emailed statement cited by Bloomberg. Meanwhile, Perrance Shiri, the head of the air force, was named agriculture minister.

Meanwhile, Winston Chitando, the executive chairman of Mimosa, a unit of Impala Platinum Holdings Ltd., takes over as mines minister, according to the report.
