Peru's Congress passed a bill that aims to keep a massive corruption probe from impairing Peru's construction sector, Reuters reported.
The measure, proposed by President Pedro Kuczynski, will provide exemptions from business restrictions "entirely or partially" for companies that broker plea deals with the attorney general's office.
The legislation will replace an anti-graft rule that limits financial operations of companies that have acknowledged or been convicted of corruption. The current rule was passed to ensure that Brazilian builder Odebrecht pays any fines imposed for corruption, according to Reuters.
