France will work with its European Union partners to assess the impact that U.S. President Donald Trump's newly ordered steel and aluminum tariffs will have on their industries, French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said in a March 8 post on Twitter.
Le Maire also said in the tweet that France "regrets" the tariffs decision, adding that the country will collaborate with its EU partners on an "appropriate response" to the matter.
Trump on March 8 confirmed plans for the U.S. to tax global steel imports at 25% and aluminum imports at 10%.
The EU previously confirmed that it is considering imposing tariffs on U.S. imports in retaliation, including bourbon whiskey and Levi Strauss & Co. jeans.
