Southern California Gas Co. detected a leak at its Aliso Canyon natural gas storage facility, which the utility said occurred during a routine operation, the Los Angeles Times reported Dec. 18.
SoCalGas said the leak did not pose any health risks, but more than 30 people reported symptoms such as headaches, nosebleeds, and burning of the eyes and throat, the report said, citing the developer of an app designed to track illnesses that might be related to Aliso Canyon.
The leak occurred in the afternoon of Dec. 18 during activities involving pressurizing equipment after maintenance work. The company plugged the leak within 50 minutes and alerted residents by evening.
California recently allowed Aliso Canyon to restart limited injections following a multi-month methane leak in 2015-2016.
SoCalGas is a Sempra Energy subsidiary.
