Twitter to join S&P 500, Netflix moves up to S&P 100

Twitter Inc. will become part of the S&P 500, while Netflix Inc. is set to join the S&P 100 before trading opens on June 7, according to an announcement from the S&P Dow Jones Indices.

Netflix and Twitter will replace Monsanto Co. in the S&P 100, and the S&P 500, respectively.

The change follows Monsanto's acquisition by Bayer AG for $62.5 billion.

Twitter will be included to the Internet Software & Services Sub-Industry index of the S&P 500 Global Industry Classification Standard.

Netflix's shares went up by 0.2% to $362.69, while Twitter's shares climbed 3.6% to $39.24, during after hours trading on June 4, according to The Wall Street Journal.
