Union Pacific Corp. said its second-quarter normalized net income came to $1.30 per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of $1.35 per share.
EPS decreased 9.4% year over year from $1.43.
Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was $1.14 billion, a decline of 12.3% from $1.30 billion in the year-earlier period.
The normalized profit margin declined to 20.9% from 21.5% in the year-earlier period.
Total revenue decreased 9.7% on an annual basis to $5.43 billion from $6.01 billion, and total operating expenses decreased 8.9% on an annual basis to $3.48 billion from $3.82 billion.
Reported net income declined 6.7% year over year to $1.21 billion, or $1.38 per share, from $1.29 billion, or $1.43 per share.
