Report: Ambev to build solar plant in Brazil's Minas Gerais

Ambev SA will establish a solar power plant in Uberlandia, Minas Gerais, that will supply energy to its distribution centers in the Brazilian state, Reuters reported Dec. 12, citing sustainability and supplies director Fernando Petersen.

Petersen reportedly said the plant, which will consist of 5,340 imported solar panels, is a step toward the company's goal to solely rely on renewable energy for all its operations in Brazil.

Curitiba-based company Alexandria, Ambev's partner in the construction, will invest 7 million Brazilian reais to build the facility. In return, Alexandria will get 75% of the power generated by the plant over a 10-year period, the report said.

Petersen reportedly added that the brewer is seeking partners and alternative energy sources in other Brazilian states.

As of Dec. 11, US$1 is equivalent to 3.91 Brazilian reais.
