J D Wetherspoon fiscal H1 profit falls YOY

J D Wetherspoon PLC said its normalized net income for the fiscal first half ended Jan. 25 came to 19 Great British pence per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of 22 pence per share.

EPS rose year over year from 19 pence.

Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was £23.4 million, compared with £23.6 million in the year-earlier period.

Total revenue increased 8.9% on an annual basis to £744.4 million from £683.2 million, and total operating expenses rose 9.8% on an annual basis to £689.3 million from £627.5 million.

Reported net income increased 6.6% on an annual basis to £27.8 million, or 23 pence per share, from £26.1 million, or 21 pence per share.
