Sky, Netflix ink multiyear content deal

Sky Ltd. and Netflix Inc. signed a multiyear deal in the U.K., according to a Jan. 19 news release.

Under the agreement, Sky Q customers can access Netflix Inc.'s basic plan.

The move comes as Netflix CEO Reed Hastings revealed plans to significantly increase its investment in U.K.-made content in 2020.

Netflix's new rival, The Walt Disney Co.'s Disney+, is also eyeing multiple partnerships with pay TV and mobile operators in the U.K., including Sky, British Telecom and Telefónica SA's O2.
