Philippine financial markets suspend clearing ops, trading amid transport strike

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas shelved clearing and settlement operations on Oct. 16 following an order to suspend work in Philippine government offices due to a two-day countrywide public transport strike, GMA News reported, citing an emailed statement from the central bank.

At the same time, Philippine Stock Exchange Inc. and the Securities Clearing Corp. of the Philippines shelved trading the same day due to the suspension of operations in the Philippine Payments and Settlements System, the bourse said in a memo.
