EDP secures PPA with Great Plains for 200-MW wind project

EDP Renewables North America announced Feb. 26 that it secured a 20-year power purchase agreement with Great Plains Energy Inc. to sell the output from a Kansas wind farm.

The EDP Renováveis subsidiary provide power from the proposed 200-MW Prairie Queen wind farm in Allen County, Kan. The facility is expected to begin operation in 2019.

"This agreement will allow EDPR to continue to execute its growth strategy based on the development of competitive projects with long-term visibility," EDP-Renováveis CEO Joâo Manso Neto said.

With the latest contract, EDP said it has expanded its footprint in Kansas to 600 MW and has "locked down" 1.5 GW in long-term agreements in the U.S. to be installed over the 2016-2020 period, on the way to a goal of 1.8 GW.

EDP Renováveis is a subsidiary of the EDP - Energias de Portugal SA.
