FirstEnergy Nuclear becomes sole owner of Beaver Valley Unit 2

FirstEnergy Nuclear Generation LLC notified the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on June 12 that it has purchased the remaining 6% equity interest in Unit 2 of the Beaver Valley nuclear plant from Perry One Delta Limited Partnership Trusts A and B on June 1.

The acquisition, representing approximately 24.4 MW, was pursuant to an assignment from Ohio Edison Co. to FirstEnergy Nuclear, according to a June 12 filing with FERC. After the transaction, FirstEnergy Nuclear is the sole owner of Unit 2 of the 1,872-MW Beaver Valley facility, located in Beaver County, Pa.

The commission authorized FirstEnergy Nuclear in 2008 to purchase the remaining stake in the power plant. In April, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission authorized Toledo Edison Co. and Ohio Edison to transfer their respective 18.26% and 21.66% leased interests in Unit 2 to FirstEnergy Nuclear.

The power plant is connected to PJM Interconnection through DQE Holdings LLC utility Duquesne Light Co.

Toledo Edison, Ohio Edison and FirstEnergy Nuclear are subsidiaries of FirstEnergy Corp. (FERC docket EC08-64) (NRC docket 2016-0277)
