Dominion Energy acquires 95 MW of solar projects in Virginia

Dominion Generation Inc acquired two solar power plants with a combined capacity of 95 MW in Virginia from Savion LLC for an undisclosed amount.

The Dominion Energy Inc. subsidiary said the projects are the 15-MW Myrtle solar project, covering about 120 acres in the city of Suffolk, Va., and the 80-MW Greensville solar facility, stretched across 1,000 acres near Emporia, Va., in Greensville County.

Both solar projects are to be operational in 2020. Telecommunications company T-Mobile US Inc. will purchase the output of these projects under a long-term contract.

In a news release Sept. 26, T-Mobile President and COO Mike Sievert said the contracts for the output of the two solar plants will bring to the company to 95% of its goal of getting all of its electricity needs from renewable resources by 2021.

Savion LLC is a subsidiary of Macquarie Group Ltd.'s Green Investment Group Ltd.
