Some of the biggest oil producers in the U.S. are zeroing in on an oil and gas play in Louisiana that has been around for decades but could soon become more of a household name.

Power

* Various power producers, utilities, consumers and developers have weighed in on proposed incentives for developing offshore wind energy in New York state.

* Santee Cooper is looking at settling its legal cases with South Carolina electric cooperatives over the abandoned V.C. Summer nuclear project out of court, The Post and Courier of Charleston, S.C., reported.

* The renewable energy industry lashed out at the Trump administration on June 7 for its continued efforts to prop up struggling nuclear and coal-fired power plants, joining with critics from the natural gas sector who say the latest plan from the U.S. Department of Energy would be ineffective and costly to consumers.

* NRG Energy Inc.'s planned $15 million repowering of its mothballed Dunkirk plant from coal to gas may not push through, as the cost to re-interconnect the plant to the electric grid could exceed $100 million, The Post-Journal of Jamestown, N.Y., reported.

* Central Maine Power Co. agreed to invest $22 million in conservation projects to compensate negative impacts of the planned New England Clean Energy Connect transmission line, Portland (Maine) Press Herald reported.

* Maine could add 2,100 jobs if it adopts "forward-thinking policies" tied to offshore wind, The Associated Press reported, citing a report by the American Jobs Project.

* U.S. District Judge Michelle Childs blocked the planned shutdown of the mixed oxide fuel project at the Savannah River site in Aiken County, S.C., according to the AP. The project was intended to dispose surplus weapons-grade plutonium by converting it into mixed oxide fuel for use in commercial nuclear reactors.

* Vermont Gov. Phil Scott signed a bill that requires the state Public Utility Commission to create a three-year pilot program that will incentivize energy efficiency investments by businesses.

Natural gas

* A June 7 TransCanada Corp. pipeline explosion leading to a force majeure is limiting gas movement and cutting into prices in the Northeast.

* Alaska Gasline Development Corp. has applied for loan with the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority to help fund the planned $43 billion Alaska LNG project, the Anchorage Daily News reported.

* Permitting for shale gas wells in Pennsylvania's dry gas northeast corner dropped precipitously during May, while the total number of monthly permits pulled statewide increased 10% from last year, state data showed.

* The Canada Development Investment Corp. has hired John Carruthers, who led the Northern Gateway pipeline project, to assist with the construction of the Trans Mountain expansion project, The Globe and Mail reported.

* North Central District Judge Gary Lee sided with landowners and dismissed Montana-Dakota Utilities Co.'s eminent domain lawsuit for a proposed natural gas pipeline in North Dakota, according to the AP.

Oil

* Chevron Corp. has decided to replace the company's Venezuela general manager with Javier La Rosa, who has served as president of its Brazil operations since 2016, Reuters reported, citing three unnamed sources.

* Nord Stream 2 AG has received one of two permits for the Russian section of the Nord Stream 2 project, a pipeline that will transport natural gas from Russia to the European Union across the Baltic Sea.

* BP PLC filed a complaint with Canada's National Energy Board over Enbridge Inc.'s move to reverse implementation of new rules on the amount of oil shipped through its Mainline system, Bloomberg News reported.

* The U.K. Financial Conduct Authority is pressing ahead with plans to create a new category within its premium listing regime that exempts state-controlled companies from certain requirements, seen as a controversial move to help attract Saudi Arabian Oil Co.'s planned IPO to London.

Coal

* Bowie Resource Partners LLC could face a liquidity shortfall in the next year if it fails to extend its revolving credit facility, S&P Global Ratings said in a downgrade of the U.S. coal producer.

* Riverview Energy Corp.'s proposed $2.5 billion coal-to-diesel project in Dale, Ind., has spurred health and emissions concerns in local residents, the Evansville (Ind.) Courier & Press reported.

* The Chinese government told several large steel mills to increase their year-on-year import volumes of U.S. met coals, as part of the country's attempts to narrow its significant trade deficit with the U.S., sources told S&P Global Platts.
