Indian annual inflation eases in July

Indian annual general consumer price index inflation slowed to 3.15% in July on from 3.18% in June, provisional data from the country's National Statistical Office showed.

Prices of fuel and light fell 0.36% in June while prices of clothing and footwear edged up 1.65%.

The consumer food price index rose 2.36% on an annual basis.

The data comes as the Reserve Bank of India slashed its repo rate by 35 basis points to a nine-year low of 5.40% amid weak economic growth. The central bank, however, revised up its expectations for CPI inflation to 3.5%-3.7% for the second half of fiscal 2019-2020, compared to a 3.4%-3.7% range estimated previously.
